jcpoetries:

We met in a small cafe

where mermaids swallowed the sea

sitting on islands of regret;

and your eyes were as blue as jazz

and your lips the color of distant fire.

I wanted to drown in your ocean,

to let go of all that is familiar on land,

to feel weightless and completely

drenched in salt,

neon, and pearl.

I tied an anchor to my waste

and shipwrecked my heart.

but your smile kept bring me back

and your laughter

was like oxygen filling my lungs

and giving me a reason

to swim.

And so I swam

toward

the sound of your voice

and

opened the door

when

you got home.

I kissed you

once,

and said,

I am sorry.
